REINFORCED CONCRETE POOLS
A reinforced concrete pool represents the traditional construction solution and offers high design flexibility.
The structure must be sized by a qualified technician and is generally built through several phases:
- Excavation and ground preparation;
- Construction of the foundation slab;
- Building of the walls;
- Smoothing and waterproofing of the surfaces;
- Installation of the lining;
- Installation of the recirculation and filtration system.
Internal surfaces can be finished with reinforced PVC membranes, mosaics, tiles, resins, or stone slabs. The choice of material depends on the desired aesthetic result, technical project requirements, and the budget.
Reinforced concrete pools can be completed with a skimmer system, a perimeter overflow, or an infinity edge. While this solution generally requires a higher investment than prefabricated structures, it allows for highly customized shapes, sizes, and finishes.
OVERFLOW POOLS
In overflow pools, the water reaches the edge of the basin and is collected by a perimeter or partial channel. From there, it is conveyed into a compensation tank (balance tank), filtered, and then returned to the pool.
Water is generally reintroduced through inlets located on the bottom, creating an upward movement that promotes uniform circulation.
The overflow system keeps the water surface constantly clean and provides a particularly elegant aesthetic result.
The overflow edge can be designed in several configurations:
- Grated overflow
- Slotted overflow
- Hidden overflow
- Infinity or vanishing edge
Each solution must be designed considering the surrounding architecture, soil characteristics, and the required system performance.
SKIMMER POOLS
Skimmers, also known as surface overflows, are installed along the pool walls to suck in the surface layer of water and direct it to the filtration system.
In a skimmer pool, the water level generally remains lower than the pool edge. This distance varies depending on the model installed, the type of lining, and the pool’s construction features.
The number and positioning of skimmers must be defined based on the shape and size of the basin, the system’s flow rate, and the prevailing wind direction. Correct design ensures the uniform collection of impurities from the water surface.
PREFABRICATED POOLS
Prefabricated pools can be built using:
- Galvanized steel metal panels;
- Pre-stressed concrete panels;
- Fiberglass monobloc structures.
Pools with metal panels offer a good quality-price ratio and significantly reduce installation time. The structure is lightweight, resistant, and flexible, while the floor and internal walls are generally lined with a reinforced PVC membrane, available in various colors and finishes.
RIGID SELF-SUPPORTING POOLS
Above-ground self-supporting pools are made with rigid steel or wood structures and are available in various shapes and sizes.
They represent a practical solution for those who wish to create a relaxation area without the extensive work required for an inground pool.

How the Skimmer System Works
Depending on the model installed, the water level is typically about 10–15 cm below the pool edge.
The skimmers are connected to the suction side of the filtration system. Proper hydraulic sizing ensures uniform suction and guarantees efficiency and consistency in water recirculation.
OVERFLOW POOLS
Types of Overflow Edge
The overflow system can be implemented in different configurations based on the desired visual effect:
- Infinity Edge: Water flows over one or more sides of the basin, creating visual continuity with the landscape and the horizon line.
- Finnish Overflow: Water is collected by a perimeter channel covered by a walkable grid, available in various materials and finishes.
- Wiesbaden Overflow: The channel is hidden beneath the paving, and the edge is finished with stone, concrete, or other materials for a clean and elegant look.
The overflow system promotes more effective surface cleaning, as the layer of water most exposed to impurities is continuously directed to the filtration system.
Compact filtration systems and underground technical rooms can reduce the impact of masonry work and integrate better with the surrounding space.
