Pool Types

Design

A pool is an architectural element with significant aesthetic impact and is capable of giving character and atmosphere to the environment in which it is placed. Designing a pool means, first and foremost, examining the environment in which it will be placed to analyze its shape and structure, allowing for the choice of the most suitable construction technology.

Depending on the available space, one can opt for in-ground or above-ground pools, prefabricated or custom-made, with a skimmer system or overflow. Centro Piscine can design and build any type of pool based on your needs and budget. Trust our experience; we will assist you in every phase of pool design and construction, helping you choose the type that best suits your needs and the finest decorative and functional accessories.

REINFORCED CONCRETE POOLS

The reinforced concrete structure certainly represents the traditional technique used for decades in the construction of pools, and, as with any reinforced concrete structure, it must be calculated by an engineer. The implementation involves several phases:

  1. Excavation – foundation slab – walls;
  2. The internal surfaces, both the floor and walls, must be finished later. A simple smoothing with specific products will be necessary in the case of PVC lining, while for the application of coverings such as mosaic, tiles, stone slabs, resins, etc., smoothing and waterproofing will be indispensable.

The latter solution, an alternative to PVC, is certainly the most expensive but allows satisfying specific design and aesthetic requirements.

Reinforced concrete pools can be constructed with skimmers, overflow edges, or infinity edges.

SKIMMER POOLS

Skimmers, or surface skimmers, are installed on the walls of the pool, determining the water level lower than the pool floor by approximately 10 to 15 cm, depending on the thickness of the material used, the type of internal lining, and other technical details.

Skimmers are connected to the filtration system, operating in suction; their positioning is crucial and plays a significant role.

The number of skimmers to be installed in regularly shaped pools, to achieve excellent surface water cleaning, is determined by the power of the filtration system. For irregularly shaped pools, other technical parameters will be taken into consideration.

OVERFLOW POOLS

The overflow edge, or gravity overflow, is generally constructed around the entire perimeter, but sometimes, in rectangular pools, it may only be present on the two long sides. It can be built in-situ or with prefabricated modular elements.

The overflow edge can be implemented in various types:

  • Overflow with grille
  • Overflow with slot on the floor
  • Hidden overflow
  • Infinity or cascade overflow

The overflow water is collected in a channel and directed to the compensation tank.

In pools with an overflow edge, water is introduced through radial jet nozzles from the floor, creating an upward movement of water from the bottom to the top, ensuring a perfect and uniform circulation.

Prefab Pools

Prefabricated Pools can be categorized into:

Prefabricated pools with panels made of galvanized steel;

Prefabricated pools with precast concrete panels;

Prefabricated pools made of fiberglass.

Certainly, the solution that best represents the optimal balance between quality and price is the one with metal panels.

This type of construction ensures ease of installation and quick completion. Additionally, it is characterized by high lightness and flexibility.

The interior of the pool, including the floor and walls, is lined with reinforced PVC membranes, available in various colors.

Both the structure and the lining are guaranteed for 10 years.

Rigid Self-Supporting Pools

Rigid self-supporting pools are constructed with steel or wooden structures in various shapes and sizes.

In recent years, many have turned to this type of pool to relax and cool off during the summer season without the need to go to the seaside.

Trust the experience and professionalism of Centro Piscine; you won’t regret it. Our staff will help you determine if the self-supporting pool is the right choice for you and your needs.

Naturally, the model should be chosen based on the available garden space for its installation. There are both circular and rectangular models, accompanied by essential items such as a ladder for entering the pool, a cover for the structure, and a filtering pump to clean the water.

Final details

Later on, the internal surfaces will need to be finished by choosing from various types of coverings such as PVC, mosaic, tiles, stone slabs. In any case, smoothing and waterproofing will be essential.

For the water in the pool to always be clean and hygienic, reinforced concrete pools also require sophisticated water circulation systems, which can be implemented with either the skimmer system or the overflow system.

Choosing a reinforced concrete pool is, among various alternatives, certainly the most expensive, but it is also the one capable of meeting specific design and aesthetic requirements, ensuring greater durability over time.

SKIMMER POOLS

Skimmers or surface overflows

Skimmers, or surface skimmers, are installed on the walls of the pool, determining the water level lower than the pool floor by approximately 10 to 15 cm, depending on the thickness of the material used, the type of internal lining, and other technical details.

Skimmers are connected to the filtration system, operating in suction; their positioning is crucial and plays a significant role.

OVERFLOW POOLS

Types of Overflow Edge

Infinity: A cascading overflow system created on one side of the perimeter with a great visual impact. The pool’s surface appears larger, and the water seems to disappear on the horizon line, creating the illusion of a larger pool.

Finnish: The pool is framed by a covered and walkable channel. A classic, practical, and hygienic system that allows for aesthetically pleasing results by playing with chromatic combinations and different materials.

Wiesbaden: The overflow is hidden, placed under the floor, and the edge is covered with stone or cement slabs for a more aesthetic finish. The pool appears neat and elegant.

The overflow filtration system is innovative and allows for greater water cleanliness compared to the skimmer system because, in this case, the most polluted layer of water, the surface layer, is constantly removed and purified.

Innovative filtration systems and buried technical areas allow avoiding complex masonry work and reducing costs.
